Overview
River City Enterprises partnered with Hourigan Construction to provide essential general works for the VCU Arts & Innovation Academic Building—a highly specialized, multi-level facility designed for performance, media production, and academic instruction.
The building includes a wide range of technical environments such as media studios, sound and AV labs, performance spaces, and classrooms, requiring careful coordination and protection throughout construction.
River City’s role focused on maintaining site integrity, protecting high-end finishes, and supporting seamless execution across all trades during the construction process.
Scope of Work
Implementation of comprehensive flooring protection across specialty surfaces including:
Dance studio flooring
Luxury vinyl tile (LVT)
Polished concrete
Installation of temporary doors and site controls to secure sensitive areas such as:
Media production studios
Sound and AV labs
Construction support for signature architectural elements including:
Custom concrete signage wall
Daily construction cleaning and site maintenance across all levels of the facility
Coordination of general works to support multi-trade workflow and protect architectural finishes
